Obituary of Thomas Tatlock Sr.
The Salem Democrat, June 16, 1886, New Philadelphia; Items dated June 14, 1886.
Thomas Tatlock, Sr., two miles north of this place, died on the 4th instant. He was nearly 81 years old. Deceased belonged to a class who are fast passing away. He was one of those strong men whose strong arms and iron nerves and indomitable courage cleared away the forests, opened up the farms, built the houses, and caused this wilderness country to blossom as the rose. When one of those men go to their last narrow resting place, no sound of muffled drum or muttering cannon may reach our ears; no military parade, with bright uniforms and glistening bayonets, shimmering and playing with the light, may inspire our admiring eyes, but peacefully they sink to rest, like the forest trees that they felled. They were a class of heroes, scarcely less deserving of our homage than those who distinguished themselves on the tented field.
~~~~~~
Thomas came linked to mother Ann May (Whitbee) Tatlock who is apparently 2nd wife of his father Joshua per the following info received 1-29-22 with edit:
Suggested edit: His mother was Sarah White Tatlock who died before the family left North Carolina.
