Reece passed away at his home Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 with his family by his side. He was 82.
Born in Calico Rock, Ark. on June 25, 1924 to Horace Neill and Audrey Jewell (Garner) Brooks, Reece spent his childhood and school years in his birth community, graduating from Calico Rock High School in 1942. He completed one year at Harding College in Searcy, Ark., before entering the U.S. Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge for his WW II service, he returned to Harding to continue his education.
As a chemical engineer with American Airlines a move to Tulsa was warranted. This move brought much more fortune than just an excellent job opportunity. It also brought him an introduction to the young lady who would become his life partner. On May the 25th, 1962, Reece and Janie Lowe married in a Drumwright, Oklahoma church ceremony with her mother's hearty approval. They made their home in Tulsa until 1969 when they moved to Claremore. Reece retired from American after 30 plus years of service, working on a consulting basis thereafter.
Having met at a church function, both Reece and Janie were right at home as they served together at their church. As an elder, a Bible teacher and an avid supporter and worker in their bus program – he was faithful. He had a reputation for humbly doing the right things, not just the easy things, showing his children by example the way to live.
With interests as varied as camping, history, tennis, politics and scripture, Reece could intelligently converse on many subjects in addition to his expertise in preventative maintenance of aircraft. But his dry sense of humor and straight-faced delivery were what made the conversations so much fun.
Devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather, Reece is survived by his wife and best friend, Janie, of their home in Claremore; his daughter, Dana Brooks; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Annette Brooks; his beloved granddaughters, Kathryn Nicole and Hannah Dawn Brooks, all of Tulsa; cousin, Joe Goodwin of Long Beach, Calif.; and all of his treasured in-laws whom he embraced as his own family from the moment he and Janie met.
