Funeral services for Edith Irene Ashley Harden, 96, of Tyler, former Olney resident, were held Sunday, Oct. 12, at Friendly Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Matthew McKellar and E.L. Dozier officiating.

Entombment was in Cathedral in the Pines Mausoleum under the direction of Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home.

Mrs. Harden was born Aug. 10, 1907 in Yale, Okla.,to the late Harry Alonzo and Etha Eliza Coonrod Ashley. She died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, in a Tyler hospital.

A 72-year resident of Tyler, she and her husband, John Calvin Harden, were co-owners of Harden's Grocery for 26 years until retirement.

She was a member of Sylvania Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Doris Louise Gilley and her husband, Bob, of Tyler; Katherine Lou Ferrell and her husband, Terry, of Bullard; Norma Jean Boyd and her husband, Bill, of Edom; and Betty Sue Sullivan and her husband, James, of Victoria; two sons, John Irvan Harden and his wife, Arlene, and Calvin Leon Harden and his wife, Donna, all of Tyler; one sister, Leta Myrle Harrell of Graham; 35 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, seven brothers, a sister, two daughters and two sons.
