FAMILY TRAGEDIES:
Maggie Harrison Jose was only age 28 years, nine months at the time of her death. Maggie and her husband died only a few months apart, and had lost their 5 year old daughter Mamie only a few months earlier. Cause of these early deaths is unknown as no death records exist, but the Smallpox Epidemic spreading through several counties in Missouri in 1896 is one possible explanation of their demise.
Maggie and William A Jose left two orphaned children who were raised by kin and neighbors.
Their only son (John W Jose) died young at age 21 years, of tuberculosis, shortly after completing his schooling to become a dentist. Dr. Jose was newly married at the time of his death and left behind a pregnant wife (Gertrude Pinson Jose), who gave birth to their daughter Willa G. Jose 7 months after his passing. Gertrude passed away a few years later in 1915 of heart problems at the age of only 27, leaving their orphaned 7 year old daughter Willa, grandchild of Maggie and William A Jose, to be raised by kin.
The orphaned Willa went on to excel during her academic years in high school and college, participating in the debate team, drama productions, pep club, chorus, and student government. Willa married a man she met in college who was the star football player and Student Body President, named Henry Kenneth Conrad. Willa's second husband was William Elledge. .
Maggie and William A Jose's only surviving daughter (Mollie Myrtle Jose) is said to have married a man named Arald W Golden and moved to Colorado.
