Johann (went by John, at least in later years) Martin Schneider (at some point in his life began to use spelling Snider, as shown on his grave marker) was the third of fourteen known children of Cornelius Schneider (1750-1804) and Anna Maria Ebert Schneider (1756-1780), who married in Jan 1766 near York Town, York County, Pennsyvlania.

John married Johanna Kastner (1784-1867) on 20 Dec 1803 at Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. John was a farmer and the family lived in or near Friedland, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina where all their children were born. John and Johanna were the parents of eight known children, namely:

1. Salome Catherine Snider Reed (1804-1885)
2. Susanna Schneider Ried (1806-???)
3. Justina Schneider Rominger (1807-1857)
4. Cornelius Schneider/Snider (1810-1888)
5. Jeremiah Schneider/Snider (1813-1883)
6. Alexander Schneider/Snider (1816-1860)
7. Anna Maria Elizabeth (Elizabeth) Schneider Bruner (1821-1900)
8. Johann (John) Gottlieb Schneider/Snider (1824-p1867)

There are probably additional children that died young. The family moved from North Carolina to the Moravian Community of Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana in October 1830. Some records do not include the son Alexander. Does anyone know if he really belongs to this family? It is believed all the sons eventually used the spelling Snider, but this is not known for certain. The daughter Susanna married Solomon Ried/Reed (1806-1837).

Links to John's parents, wife, five of his eight known children and three of his thirteen known siblings are included below.
