Mary married Nathan Pitts on October 4, 1859, in St. Clair County, Illinois. Nathan was born May 7, 1838, in St. Clair County, Illinois, the son of Kinchin and Elizabeth "Betsy" (Elder) Pitts. Mary and Nathan had the following known children:

2. John Jerome Pitts (1864-1947)
3. Mary Elizabeth "Mamie" (Pitts) Beck (1870-?)
4. William Nathan Pitts (1877-1919)
Mary died October 12, 1913, in Wellington, Sumner County, Kansas. Nathan died July 30, 1920, in WInfield, Cowley County, Kansas.

Mrs. Nathan Pitts Dead
Mrs. Mary M. Pitts, wife of Nathan Pitts, died suddenly Sunday morning about five o'clock, of heart failure. She had been ill about ten months.
Mrs. Pitts, whose maiden name was WIlderman, was born at Freeburg, Illinois, April 10, 1841. She was married to Nathan Pitts October 4, 1859. The children, who survive, are George T. Pitts, John J. Pitts, Mrs. Mamie Beck of Winfield, and William N. Pitts. A sister, Mrs. Eleanor P. Ward, resides here.
Mr. and Mrs. Pitts came to Kansas twenty-nine years ago. For many years they lived on a farm three miles southeast of Wellington. A few years ago they removed to Wellington. They were among the earliest settlers in this community.
The funeral services will be held at the home at 819 North A street, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. D. H. Stewart, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and Rev. D. H. Switzer, pastor of the Methodist church.
