Valentin "Val" E. Siehs, 69, of 10 E. Fremont St., Kiel, died unexpectedly Monday morning, March 15, 2004, at his home.
He was born Aug. 29, 1934, in the town of Forest, Fond du Lac County, son of the late Philipp and Elsa Meerstein Siehs. Val attended Woodland School and was a 1952 graduate of Kiel High School. In 1958 he received his bachelor's degree in Business administration from Lakeland College.
On Aug. 17, 1958, Val married LuAnn Beil at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel.
He was a cheese maker with his father at the School Hill Co-op. in 1959. Val was employed at Kretsch Bros. in Kiel until 1965 when he purchased the business. Val was also employed at Kohler Co., C. Reiss Coal Co., Sheboygan and retired from Donohue Engineering, Sheboygan.
He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig and D.A.N.K. He was a past member of the Kiel Jaycees and the Kiel Chamber of Commerce where he was secretary/treasurer.
Val enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife LuAnn; and five children, Val (Elizabeth) Siehs of Kiel, Karl (Laura) Siehs of Menomonee Falls, Paul Siehs and fiancee, Jan Billmann of Kiel, Rich Siehs of Kiel and Marie Siehs of Kiel. He is further survived by four granddaughters, Kari, Rachael, Patricia and Amanda Siehs; one brother, Kurt (Sue) Siehs of Muskwonago; and two sisters-in-law, Irmgard Dreier of Howards Grove, and Delia Beil of Bellevile, Wis. He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Walter Dreier and the Rev. Howard Beil.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 17 at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home,, 815 Sixth St., Kiel, with the Rev. Kathryn Kuhn officiating. Burial will take place in the Kiel City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
A memorial has been established for Bethlehem U.C.C. Building Fund.
