Mrs. Waty Surber Aarons was born at Shelbyville, Indiana, Febuary.10, 1841, and died in Carroll, Iowa, November 22, 1912, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Ochampaugh, 1018 North Main street. Mrs. Aarons was therefore In her seventy-first year. Her parents were of the good old sturdy Virginian stock and she was the only daughter of a family of seven children. At an early day the Suber family moved to Iowa, settling in Warren county. December 17, 1857, she was married to Andrew Aarons, and In time moved to Greene county, locating In the southern part on a farm. After six years of residence there, she with her husband, came to Glidden and resided on a farm near there.

Later they moved to Glidden, where Mr. Aarons died, and after a short residence there Mrs. Aarons came to Carroll where she has since lived,
making a total residence in Carroll county on thirty-one years, easily
numbered her with the pioneers. Her husband died January 5, 1895.
He was a veteran of the Civil war fourteen months and was wounded
at Corinth, Mississippi. Twelve children were born to them, of which
five daughters and four sons are still living, three dying In Infancy. Four daughters and two sons reside In Carroll, one daughter at Woodbine, one son at Glidden, and another son at Hockham, South Dakota. The latter was unable to attend the obsequies of the beloved mother, but only a short time ago made her a short visit. At the age of fifteen she became converted and Joined the Christian church. In 1875 with her husband she joined tho M. E. church and continuedher membership with that denomination until the Christian church was organized In Carroll, later transferring her membership toWoodbine, where her daughter, Mrs. W. D. Howorth, resided. She always
found comfort In her Savior and lived a devout Christian life until her spirit winged its flight home to Its Maker. Mrs. Aarons health began to fail early In the fall, and from the first symptoms of her trouble, was resigned to her fate and was patient until the last, for early In life she had given herself to God and was ready to do His will. She died, as she lived a firm believer in the Supreme Being, a happy thought long to be cherished by the surviving children of a devoted and loving mother. The remains were Interred In the West Lawn cemetery at Glidden Sunday.
