Jessie Nation, 79, of Evansdale, IA, a native of the Traer community, died at 1:10 a.m. Sunday in Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of emphysema. He was the youngest son of William and Sarah Bowers Nation and was born August 9, 1888, northeast of Traer, and his early years were spent here. He was married to Myrtle Estella Powell, a daughter of the R. M. Powells of Geneseo Township, on December 28, 1910. They started farming in Geneseo after their marriage. They later moved to Waterloo, and Mr. Nation was employed many years by the John Deere Tractor Works, until 1949. After his retirement at the Deere plant he engaged in farming an acreage on LaFayette Road, near Waterloo, until three years ago.
Mr. Nation was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by two sons: Virgil of Jesup and Roscoe of LaFayette Road, Waterloo; three daughters: Mmes. Murial Lentz and Mildred Hinson, both of Waterloo, and Mrs. Marjorie Warren, with whom he resided at 1121 Brooksdie Avenue in Waterloo; two sisters: Mmes. Jake Friese of Arlington, S.D., and Mayme Henning of Montebello, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was a member of Graves Evangelical-United Brethren Church of Waterloo. The services were held in the church at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. John H. McFarland, pastor, after which the body was brought to Traer for interment in Buckingham Cemetery.
