On September 24, 1875 in Grundy County, he married Louisa Rohle. She was the widow of Theodore Rohl and had children Albert, Allen and Elias (Eli) Rohl from that marriage. The 1885 census for Grundy County shows Daniel and Louisa with her 3 sons and a new daughter, Alta, age 6.
Louisa died in 1886, and on October 6, 1887 Daniel was married to (much younger) Anna Tisor daughter of Andrew and Emily (Lawrence) Tisor. They lived briefly in Harrison County, Missouri, and later settled in Marshalltown. They had three children: Elsa Ida (Elsie), Mabel Adean and Roy D. Snyder.
