Mary Stamaris Andre, 72, of the 700 block of Bayberry Lane, died July 23, 1999.

She was born in Mandan, N.D., to the late James and Katherine Stamaris and graduated from Mandan High School, where she was the first Homecoming Queen. She was a Norfolk resident, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where she was an information resource specialist.

Mary was a member of Ocean View Presbyterian Church in Norfolk for 43 years. She was a member of Presbyterian Women Circle Three, the Christian Women's Club and Portsmouth Women's Club. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi, holding several offices, and was selected Valentine Queen twice in Tidewater and once in Oregon.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest L. Andre of Norfolk; a son, Gregory S. Andre and his wife, Tina, of Oviedo, Fla.; a granddaughter, Kristen Andre; two sisters, Martha Knoll of Fargo, N.D., and Noni Miller of Mandan, N.D.; two brothers, John Stamaris of San Diego, Calif., and James Stamaris of Bismarck, N.D.; and a brother-in-law, Fredrick Andre and his wife, Barbara, of Gresham, Ore.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach. A funeral will be conducted in Ocean View Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Arthur E. Jensen. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the National Organization of Rare Diseases, P.O. Box 8923, New Fairfield CT 06812-88923
