Elizabeth Rich Bell, 86, a former nurse and teacher, a well-traveled golfer and a former member of the Harrisburg YWCA and Homeland Center boards of directors, died Monday in Green Ridge Village Presbyterian Community, Newville. Bell, formerly of Harrisburg and Columbus, Ohio, had taught at the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., and was a former nurse at Camp Renoia in Belgrade Lake, Maine. She was a member of the YWCA board for eight years and the Homeland Center board for seven years. She had played golf on five continents, had been a volunteer of the former Lady Keystone Open golf tournament in Hershey for 20 years and was a member of Range End Golf Club, Dillsburg, for more than three decades.
She was a graduate of Williamsport Dickenson Seminary, the National Cathedral School, Mount Holyoke College and the Yale University School of Nursing and had pursued graduate studies at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. She was a member of Camp Hill United Methodist Church and the College Club of Harrisburg; and a 50-year member of the Harrisburg Chapter, American Association of University Women.
She was the widow of the Rev. Dr. Sheridan Watson Bell and the daughter of the late U.S. Rep. Robert R. Rich and Julia Trump Rich. Surviving are two daughters, two sons, two sisters, Catherine Rich Brayton of Fall River, Mass., and Julia Rich Kurtz of Lancaster and Naples, Fla.; and five grandchildren. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Woolrich Cemetery, Woolrich. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. March 27 in Grace United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. March 27 in the church. Arnold Home for Funerals, Paxtang, is handling arrangements.
