His first wife was unknown. He had 2 children Hugh Harris, Jr. and Mary Harris. He remarried in Jonesborough, TN on November 5, 1834 to Elizabeth Jackson. He died in the Broylesville community on February 13, 1855.

Inscription

A Revolutionary soldier, 3 years under Gen. Washington. Was 48 ys. a member of the Baptist Church died a Christian Feb 11th 1855. Aged 106 years.
