HANES--Gunnery Sergeant Lucius E. Hanes U.S.M.C. of Camp Pendleton, California, passed away January 3, 1965 at Camp Pendleton. He was born October 10, 1928 in Hickman County, Tennessee. He had been a resident of this area since 1943. He had been in the Marine Corps for 18 years. He served in Korea, and was awarded the Silver Star, the nation's 4th highest award.

He is survived by his two children: Curtis and Rebekah, both of Fortuna, California; his mother, Annie L. Hanes of Springfield; five brothers; Aubrey, Clyde, and Mitchell, all of Springfield, Bernard of Columbia, Tennessee, and Robert of Little Lot, Tennessee; three sisters: Mrs. Era Good of Fall Creek, Mrs. Audrey Welch of Junction City, and Mrs. Mildred Hassell of Centerville, Tennessee.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 8, 1965 at 1pm. Internment followed in Lane Memorial Gardens.

Edwin died suddenly of a massive heart attack at the age of 36. A huge shock to the family. Gave no outward appearance of health problems. Very handsome. His nickname 'Gyp' was short for gypsy. This was due to the fact that he got so tan in the summertime.
