Mrs. Ballew was born Jan. 10, 1922, in McComb, to James T. and Wilena Crittington Boyd.
She was a member of J.J. White Memorial Presbyterian Church and was a retired beautician. For many years she was a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Mrs. Ballew's family remembers her as a person who loved life. She loved to fish and loved to dance, so much so that she attended the Arthur Murray School of Dance. Until her health began to fail, she was an active member of J.J. White Church. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After the death of her husband, she worked as a beautician to support her three children and made sure that each of them received a college education.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Edgar "Red" Ballew; two brothers, Charles and J.T. Boyd; and two sisters, Johnny Pearl McDaniel and Amelia Bacon. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James "Jimmy" and Karen Ballew of Houston, Texas, and Greg and Polly Ballew of Summit; and a daughter, Judy Wentworth of Denham Springs, La.; four sisters, Mary Kuykendall of Jacksonville, Fla., Louise Temple of Magnolia, Edith Bishop of McComb and Thelma Sigur of Kenner, La.; five grandchildren, Peter Ballew and wife Carla of Youngsville, La., Jamie Ballew of Lafayette, La., Jodie Daquilla and husband Kevin of McComb, and Justin and Jordan Leigh Ballew, both of Summit; three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Ballew of Youngsville and Braden Daquilla of McComb; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Peter Ballew, Jacob Ballew, Justin Ballew and Kevin Daquilla.
