Fern (Dale) Blake, 99, formerly of Pittsboro and Lizton, Indiana died Oct. 15, 2008 at Marquette Manor Retirement Community where she had lived since 1995. Fern was born in Boone County May 12, 1909, the daughter of Otha and Essie Dale. Fern was a graduate of Pittsboro High School and a 1931 graduate of Purdue University. Fern taught Home Economics in several high schools in Boone, Hendricks and Montgomery Counties. She is survived by a daughter, Judith Blake Wisely of Carmel, two sons; John (Janet) Blake of Longview, Texas and Phillip (Joyce) Blake of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Fern had seven grandchildren: Mark Wisely, David Wisely (deceased), Nikki Brabbs, Bradley, Justin, Richmond and Austin Blake and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Oct. 18 at the Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center in Speedway. The Reverend Dr. Lewis Galloway of Second Presbyterian Church presided.
