SPRINGFIELD - Shirley M. Allen, 73, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at her home in Springfield. She was born July 19, 1937, in Porter, Maine, the daughter of Clifford and Evelyn (Cram) Douglass.
She attended schools in Maine and graduated from Bridgeton High School.
She married Wayne L. Allen Sr. on May 30, 1981, in Manchester, Conn.
Mrs. Allen was employed for more than 35 years as a bank manager for Hartford National Bank in Connecticut. Following her retirement from the bank, she and her husband owned and operated Wayne's Greenhouse in Chester, Vt.
She lived in East Windsor, Conn., for many years, Chester for 10 years and Springfield since 2002. She also wintered in Florida for many years.
She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and tag sales.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne L. Allen Sr. of Springfield; a stepson, Wayne Allen Jr. of Sacramento, Calif.; four stepdaughters, Lori Scribner and Holly Allen, both of West Rutland, Leticia Capitan of Belchertown, Mass., and Lesle Beland of South Windsor, Conn.; one brother, Nelson Douglass of Woodstock, Conn.; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Alan Douglass, and by a sister, Beverly Wilkerson.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
Burial will follow in the Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Davis Memorial Chapel.
