Sophia/Sophie was wife of John Wetterlund. She hung herself in the attic of their home June 25, 1930 and her son, Clarence found her.

The Topeka State Journal had following obituary for her (published June 25, 1930; apg 1, column 2):

"She Hangs Self In Attic"
Resusitation Experts Fail To Revive Mrs. Sophie Wetterlund

When Clarence Wetterland, 300 Harrison Street, returned to his home this morning at 9:15 o'clock, he found a note on a kitchen table from his mother, Mrs. Sophie Wetterland, saying: "You will find me in the attic."

He climbed to the attic to find his mother's body hanging from a rope tied to a rafter. She had been dead several minutes.

At 8:30 o'clock this morning, a sister, Mrs. Otto Larson, 116 Clay street, had talked to Mrs. Wetterland over the telephone, and she told Dr. H. L. Clark, county coroner, who was called immediately, that Mrs. Wetterland had given no indication of her intentions.

Resuscitation experts from the Topeka fire department were rushed to the scene immediately but failed to revive her.

It is understood that Mrs. Wetterland had been worrying considerably during the last year following the death of her husband, over family troubles. Her health, however, had not seemed to be impaired.

Mrs. Wetterland was 59. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Larson, her son, Clarence, and a grandson. Funeral services will be Friday afteroon at 2 o'clock from Wall-Diffenderfer's funeral home. Burial will be in Topeka cemetery.

Sophie had a lot of heartache:
1. Her daughter, Anna Emelia Wetterlund, died August, 1901 at the age of 8 from stepping on broken china and contracting lockjaw. 2. Her daughter, Esther Wetterlund Holm, died at Sophie's home in November, 1928 at the age of 37 from diabetes. 3. Her husband, John died of a stroke in September 1929.
