Arthur studied Mining Engineering at Stanford University and before graduation went to Durango Mexico to run a silver mine owned by his father, Dr. George E. Davis. There three of their children were born. They stayed until about 1910 when Pancho Villa ran them out of the country. They settled in Sunnyvale, California and became orchardists.
