Mr. Nixon was born Oct. 7, 1926 in McCurtain, Okla., and was a son of Walter R. and Anna Nixon. He moved to Ajo in 1947 and started a career with Phelps Dodge Corporation. He worked there 30 years and was a locomotive engineer. He met the love of his life, Florene Webb, and they married in 1948.
He started a business in Ajo and ran it until retiring for health reasons. He was devoted to his family.
Survivors include two sons, Howard Nixon Jr. of Casa Grande and Benny Nixon of Phoenix; a sister, Patricia Davis of Bakersfield, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years; two brothers, Bill and Renee Nixon; and three sisters, Ruth and Betty Nixon and Norma Blankenship.
