SHELLSBURG Hulda Marie Nissen McIlrath, age 92, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church in Shellsburg with Rev. Mark Leckband officiating. Interment was at the Keystone Cemetery.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton was in charge of services.
Hulda was born to George and Dorothea (Holst) Nissen, at Keystone, Iowa, on April 26, 1913. She was united in marriage to Clifford McIlrath, on December 26, 1936, at Hartwick, Iowa. The couple farmed for many years in the Hartwick and Belle Plaine areas. They also lived in Shellsburg, Lee's Summit, MO, and Keystone.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shellsburg, where she had been a member of the Ladies Guild and sang in the choir. She enjoyed cooking, music, playing cards and visiting with friends and relatives.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (Kathryn) of Iowa City and Allen (Barbara) of LeClaire; a daughter, Peggy (John) Lewis of Shellsburg; a brother Paul Nissen of Marion; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and three sisters-in-law, Vera Nissen,, Evalena Dale and Lila Foster.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford in 1997, her parents, a grandson, Thomas Scott Lewis; three brothers, Alvin, Elmer and Frank Nissen and two sisters, Lydia Francke and Marie Smith.
