VINTON-Funeral services for Elmer J. Nissen, 83, were held Friday, Jan. 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vinton. The Rev. Clarke E. Frederick officiated. Nissen died Monday, Jan. 9, 1995, at the Vinton Lutheran Home, where he had been a resident since the fall of 1994. Pallbearers were Cory O'Deen, Warren Francke, Robert Nissen, Gary Mcllrath, David Krug, Jerry Krug, Steve Krug, and Mike Nissen. Elmer J. Nissen was born Nov. 11, 1911, in Kane Township near Keystone. He was the son of George and Dora Hoist Nissen. He married Vera Krug at Dysart Feb. 17, 1947. He is survived by his wife, Vera Vinton; one son, Don Nissen, Columbus, Ind; two daughters, Susan Davis, Cedar Falls, and Brenda Friday, Auburn, Wash.; three grandchildren, Corey O'Deen, Saul Nissen, and Graham Nissen; one brother, Paul Nissen, Marion; and two sisters, Hulda Mcllrath, Shellsburg, and Marie Smith, Wheat Ridge, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alvin and Frank Nissen; and one sister, Lydia Francke. Phillips Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established. The Belle Plaine Union January 18, 1995.
