Austin Hawkins was born in Indiana. He came with his family to KS in 1882. In 1910, he married Carrie May Swisher. She may have died either in childbirth or due to illness. He married again to Rhoda Pearl (Hancock) Stuart, who may also have been a widow.
Rhoda brought 3 children with her - Ivella, Mildred, and Robert.
Rhoda and Austin had one son - John Earl Copeland Sr. He was shot down and killed in action during WWII. Because his body was never recovered, I am putting his obituary and a photo to Austin's Memorial - it a photo of John Earl and of the memorial cross that is put up by the Mt. Hope Cemetery along with other War dead that never returned home.
