George DEINES of Longmont died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, at Peaks Care Center. He was 94.
He was born on Oct. 8, 1912, in Berthoud, the son of Adam and Elizabeth (Hohnstein) Deines. He grew up on a farm in Berthoud.
On June 5, 1938, he married the love of his life, Katherine Schlagel, in Longmont.
He moved to a farm in southwest Longmont, farming there until his retirement in 1958. He then moved to the city of Longmont.
Mr. Deines called square dances for 19 years. He was an active member of the Big Thompson Grange for 68 years and was also involved with the Longmont Noon Lions Club for 40 years.
Commonly referred to as "Uncle George," he will be remembered for building a legacy of love, support and devotion through a life of service and friendship.
Mr. Deines was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years; four sisters; and two brothers.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews, including his great-great-nieces, Jillian Elizabeth and his namesake, Jorja Kate.
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with family present to greet friends. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1500 Ninth Ave. in Longmont, with the Revs. Anne D. Kear and Matt King officiating. Interment will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
