Carolyn Harris McDonough of Longmont died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 at Longmont United Hospital. She was 92.
She was born Jan. 28, 1909, to Lloyd C. and Louise Warner Harris in Longmont. Her father owned and operated Harris Furniture Company.
She attended Wolcott Boarding School in Denver, Longmont High School and graduated from Greeley High School in 1927.
She graduated from the University of Colorado in 1932.
On Aug. 26, 1933, she married Frank McDonough III in Longmont. They lived in many places, returning to Longmont in 1970. They were well-known in Longmont for their pet squirrel monkeys.
She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, P.E. O. Chapter M, American Association of University Women for over 30 years and was a past regent of the Longs Peak Chapter of NSDAR. She was also active in the St. Vrain Historical Society and was on the Callahan House Board of Directors.
Mrs. McDonough was devoted to her family. She was an author who self-published several books, including two when she was in her 90s.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Harris Durning; her husband; and two daughters, Margot McDonough Mason and Carol McDonough Gorman.
Mrs. McDonough is survived by a grand-son, Guy Gorman and his wife Linden of Richmond, Va.; a grand-daughter, Carolyn E. McCarthy of Denver; a son-in-law, Joseph Gorman and his wife Mary of Longmont; and several nieces and nephews including Deanne Durning Brehony and her husband Jim of Lakeridge, Va., Dwight Murphey and his wife Virginia of Wichita, Kan., Julie Porter Herring of Boulder, Nannette Page Stevens and her husband Charles of Aurora and their families.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Central Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Glenn Perica officiating.
Cremation will be held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Private inurnment will be in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
