George Jackson, 67, Spanish-American war veteran, whose home is in Englewood, passed away Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Veterans' hospital at Danville, Ill., where he had been since April 1938. Death attributed to complications.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Elmwood chapel of the Day-Carter & Roach funeral home with the Rev. Otto Duncan officiating. Burial will be made in Green Hill cemetery. The body arrived this morning on Monon train No. 3 at 3:48 o'clok and was taken to the funeral home, where it will lie in state until the funeral hour.
A native of Palmyra, Mr. Jackson was born April 24, 1882, to Andrew and Elizabeth McBrume Jackson. He was united in marriage November 28, 1902, at Salem to Miss Sarah Spaulding, who survives. He was formerly a member of the War Veterans and was employed as a stone mill worker.
Survivors besides the widow include five children, Mrs. Roe Johnson of Niles, Michigan, Louis Jackson, Roger Jackson, Jean Jackson and Betty Jackson, all at home; two brothers, Cleve Jackson of Bedford, and John Jackson of Huron; two sisters, Mrs. Herschel Sharpe of Bedford, and Mrs. Robert Knuckle of Salem, and four grandchildren. Two daughters, Mrs. Bart Short and Bertie Jackson, preceded their father in death.
