Mrs. Berney was born on Jan 16, 1917, in Burwell to George and Mary (Murphy) Horn. She was raised in rural Wolbach and attended country schools near there and Wolbach High School. She married Austin O. Berney on Nov. 30, 1936 in Grand Island. The couple lived in the Wolbach area for five years and then in 1941 moved to Detroit, Mich., where they lived for one year. In 1942 they moved back to the Wolbach area where they farmed east of town until 1960. They then made their home in Wolbach where she lived until 1991 when she entered the Greeley Care Home.
Mrs. Berney owned and woked in different cafes in the Wolbach and St. Paul area until 1971. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, Lydia Church Circle and Happy Hour Club.
Survivors include her husband, Austin of Wolbach; one daughter, Margorie (Mrs. Joe) Stoffel of Wiley, Colo.; three sons, Roger of Fremont, Richard of Grand Island and Steve of Fort Collins, Colo.; nine grandchildren; two great-granchildren; three sisters, Helen Wadsworth and Georgia Oakley, both of Wolbach and Virginia Scheibe of Blair. She was preceded by one son, Reid; one granddaughter, Krystal Stoffel; two brothers, William and Art; and two sisters, Mary Berney and Edna Studley.
