PFC US ARMY
Paul was born in Durham, North Carolina, with Granville County roots. He was a Vietnam-era veteran, later employed by Duke University for many years until declining health caused retirement. Paul Barbee was a family historian and genealogist, non pareil. He assisted many in locating ancestors without fees, as well as paying clients. He was held in high regard at North Carolina State Archives and Library for his dedication to thorough and ethical research. Some that he assisted became successful genealogists themselves. Having entered the profession before automation and the Internet, Paul did many hours of labor intensive, original research, often manually transcribing notes. As Paul was an unsung hero, I endeavor to be a worthy protégée of this cousin and mentor.
