He was about 5 ft.9 in.tall,with blue eyes and blonde hair.

He joined the 121st New York Volunteers Aug 11,1862,
Assigned in Campaign Maryland.
At Battle of Gettysburg on July 4,1863 and
At Rappahannock Nov.7,1863 he was shot through the jaw and tongue and was given disability discharge Oct 19,1864.He always wore a beard after that to cover his scars fronm the injuries.When he got shot our grandmother Ella said he was thought to be dead and had been put in the wagon that carried the dead .We never heard how they found he was alive or if he got out on his own .

He and Ophelia had one daughter Lelia Rebecca,and two sons,Winfred Charles,and Eugene Abbott Maltby

After Ophelias death in 1878 ONEIDA CO.,NY he
Married: ELLA FLORA BASSETT 1879-80

They moved to Goff, Kansas and built their new home on their homestead,They had 1 girl Ophelia Maltby,and 5 boys.Charles,Isacc,Grover,Joe,and Harmon whom only lived 2 yrs.

Flora took all the children and moved to Cheyenne,Ok.after Miltons death and got her own homestead.
