He was born September 28, 1892, in the Town of Taycheedah, the son of John W. and Mary Dietzen Schaefer. He married Mary Schoenborn on November 24, 1914, in Marytown.
He farmed in Mount Calvary area his entire life, moving to Rolling Meadows in 1982. He attended Holy Cross Catholic Grade School and was a member of Holy Cross Church and its St. Anthony Society for the past 73 years.
Survivors include his five sons; Clarence of St. Peter, Claude of Malone, Francis of the homestead, Rt.1 Mt. Calvary, James of Route 1, Mt.Calvary,and Cyril of Mt. Calvary. Four daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Leona)Engel of Fond du Lac; Mrs. Gilson (Edna) Sabel of Malone; Mrs. Ray (Florence) Ziegelbauer of Mequon and Mrs. Eugene (Virginia) Lefeber of St. Joe; 43 grandchildren and 70 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by one brother, Henry Schaefer of Route 1, Mount Calvary; and three sisters; Mrs.George (Julia) Schmitz of St. Peter, and Mrs. Agnes Kraus and Sister Gasper Schaefer SSND, both of Mount Calvary.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 10 a.m. at the Huss Funeral Home, St. Cloud, and at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mount Calvary. The Rev. Roger Zach will officiate. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
