David M. Adams, 97

David Martin Adams, 97, a resident of Birch Gardens Assisted Living in Fishersville for the past four years, and formerly of Mount Crawford, passed away Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008.

Mr. Adams was born May 14, 1911, in Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Medford and Mary Garber Adams.

David was a self-employed farmer and was a member of Belmont Church of Christ. He was previously a member of Bridgewater Church of the Brethren and Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren, where he sang in the choir. He was a charter member of the Rockingham Male Chorus and also a member of the Rockingham Octet that sang on WSVA radio in June 1935 during the first half-hour WSVA was on the air.

On June 21, 1934, he married Vesta Grace Landes, who preceded him in death Dec. 5, 1994. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, June Adams Gibble, in 2007 and by a granddaughter, Teresa Ann Rittenhouse, in 1999.

He is survived by three sons, James D. "Jim" Adams and Jo of Staunton, John W. Adams and Donna of Dayton and Lowell W. Adams and Pat of Columbia, Md.; three daughters, Donna Kay Adams Rittenhouse and Wilbur of St. Louis, Mo., Mary Grace Adams of South Dartmouth, Mass., and Karen Adams Wyrick and Ron of Harrisonburg; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, one great- great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Members of the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg with Minister Lucas Vasconcellos officiating.
