Dr. Curlee was born in Argenta near Mathis and attended Mathis public schools and graduated from UT at Austin in 1933. In 1938 he received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Baylor School of Medicine in Dallas. On November 6, 1938 Curtis married Catherine Wood, a laboratory technician from Dallas. He served an internship at Parkland Hospital in Dallas before going to Sinton in 1939 to begin private practice in general medicine and surgery. In June 1942 Curtis and Dr. L.H. Cockerham built the Sinton Hospital and Clinic where he practiced medicine until the mid-1950's, after which he devoted much effort in studying the effect of trace minerals added to the soil and was one of the first farmers in the area to see the need for chemical fertilizers in agriculture. Dr. Curlee was killed instantly in a two vehicle accident near Sinton on May 12, 1965.
