Francis married Sarah M. McCrary on Christmas Day, December 25, 1883.
Francis M. Malone application for pension states:
" I think it was in the fall of 1863, I volunteered as a mere boy in the Home Guards, under Captain O.M. White. I served there two days and my father, who was making nitre for the Confederate Government, came and took my place in the Home Guards and by my arrangement between my father & Capt. White I was sent back to the nitre works where I worked had until the war closed.
I was in no battle , but continued to make nitre for about 18 months next before the war closed and carried it to Bluff City & turned it over to Capt. Finey. I never received one cent for it.
I first worked in the nitre works in the bend of the river near the mouth of Beaver Creek in Sullivan County. I was then removed to my home neighborhood near bluff City where I worked until the war closed."
