Charlie, as he was known, was born and grew up near Sinton in San Patricio Co., Texas, but lived briefly in Beeville in Bee Co.; then moved to a farm between Mathis and San Patricio, along the Nueces river. He was an avid hunter -- doves, quail, turkey, and especially deer - both white tail and mule deer.
