George was the eldest of ten children born to Wilhelm (William) Frederick John Von Sien and Katharina Theis. Wilhelm had a daughter previous to this, Erda, with first wife, Frederike Famer, who died in 1871.

George Von Sien of Fargo, who represents a well known insurance company, spent Saturday in the capital city, and was a guest at the Grand Pacific.

His niece, Lydia (daughter of his sister, Emma), recalls that there was no radio or TV in those days for entertainment and they used to have fun sing fests at his beautiful Fargo, North Dakota home. She still remembers that he had a fine singing voice.

A Fargo newspaper recently carried an account of the sale of the insurance business of the Hodgson Realty company to Cosgriff & Von Sien, Inc.
The latter firm has been incorporated for two years and is composed of E. P. Cosgriff and Geo. Von Sien.
"The company has builded a splendid business since it was established, and in addition to the local business, the concern also represents four big companies in the North Dakota general field, being the Standard of Hartford, the Alliance of Philadelphia, the Indemnity Insurance company of North America, and the Twin City Fire Insurance, for hail.
"The Hodgson Realty company will continue with the real estate and loans business."

Minneapolis Girl Becomes a Bride in Ceremony at Gethsemane Episcopal Church
At high noon on Saturday in Gethsemane Episcopal church, Miss June von Sien, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George von Sien, 58 Melbourne street southeast, became the bride of Mr. Richard William Scott of Pittsburgh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank R. Scott of Fargo, N. D. The Rev. Austin Pardue read the service in the chancel, which had been decorated with greenery and garden flowers. Mr. Willard Johnson, organist at the church, played a program of nuptial music before the ceremony.
Mr. von Sien gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a gown of white mousse line de some with a large brimmed hat of the same material. The gown was fashioned with long sleeves, full above the elbow and tight fitting below. The bride carried a sheaf of calla lilies as her bouquet.
Miss Ruth von Sien, her sister’s only attendant, wore an organza frock in light cedar brown shade with a large brimmed pink hat. Her bouquet was of delphinium, roses and other garden flowers. Mr. Donovan McCain of Minneapolis served as Mr. Scott’s best man.
A bridal luncheon was served to 25 guests following the ceremony the College Women’s club, 310 Groveland avenue. Mrs. Von Sien wore white flowered crepe with a shoulder corsage of gardenias. Mrs. Scott, mother of the bridegroom, was gowned in embroidered eggshell voile with brown accessories.
Mr. Scott and bride left for the east, and planned to stop in Chicago to visit the World’s Fair before going to Pittsburgh. They will be at home after June 20 at 1311 Singer place, Wilkinsburg, a suburb of Pittsburgh. For travel, the bride had chosen a cream colored knit dress with a brown homespun coat and brown accessories.
Mrs. Scott attended the University of North Dakota and the University of Minnesota and she is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Mr. Scott, a graduate of the University of North Dakota, belongs to Sigma Chi fraternity.
Among the out-of-town guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Frank R. Scott, Phillip Sterling Scott and Frank R. Scott Jr., of Fargo, Mr. and Mrs. George Wilkins of Duluth, and Mrs. Charles Watson of Waseca.

By Dec. 1936, there was mention in a family letter of George now being divorced from Hallie, broken down in health, down and out, and in the hospital for several months at a time.

According to the 1940 U.S. census, 67 yr. old George S. Von Sien, b. abt. 1873 in MN., listed himself as 'married' and was lodging at the home of 65 yr. old Carrie Walker and her 30 yr. old daughter, Harriet Di Vette at 2401 Harriet Ave. South, in Minneapolis, Hennepin, MN. He was also living there in 1935.
George attended school through seventh grade.

According to the April 2, 1940 census, Hallie was listed as 'married' (perhaps to avoid the social stigma of divorce) and living on E. 53rd St. in Manhattan, NYC with her 34 yr. old daughter, Ruth E. Von Sien. Ruth had completed four years of college and Hallie had completed four years of High school. Ruth was working as a buyer for a retail dept. store.
In 1935, Hallie and Ruth were living in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., MN.
Hallie B. Vonsien died Dec. 14, 1940 at Rocky River, Cuyahoga, OH.

A reception followed at Hampshire house.
