The youngest son of J.W. & Della McIntosh. He is found on the 1930 U.S. Census for Clay County, Missouri as a 7 year old boy, living with his parents and the following siblings: brother Everett, age 22; sister Edna, age 17; brother James, age 13; and brother Leo, age 9. All family members are listed as being born in Missouri on that census report. He is again found on the 1940 U.S. Census for Clay County, listed as an 18 year old living with his widowed mother Della and brothers Everett and Leo, aged 32 and 19 years old respectively. He enlisted for World War II military service on November 3, 1942 at the Jefferson Barracks Military Post in Lemay, Missouri. His Army Division took basic training in Bend, Oregon, later seeing action in North Africa at Arzew, Algeria where they fought decisively. The Division swept ashore in Bagnoli and Naples, Italy on June 16, 1944, and completed their mission by sweeping north to the Arno River on July 18th.
