Francis Baker was born about 1611, probably in the east of England. It has been claimed that he was the son of Thomas and Frances Ingram Baker, but he could be the second son of Nicholas Baker of Framlingham, Suffolk, who wrote his will in 1631. Francis emigrated from England with documents issued by authorities in St. Albans, Hertfordshire. Francis appears on the passenger list of the ship ‘Planter', Captain Nicholas Trarice, which sailed from London in April of 1635 and arrived in Boston on Sunday, June 7, 1635, as Francis Baker, taylor-- 24. Francis spent some time in Boston, and by 1641, he was married to Isabel Twining. They were possibly married in Boston on June 17, 1641. They had a son, Nathaniel, born in Boston on March 27, 1642. Francis and Isabel moved to Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts, before 1648, and had a son, Samuel, born on May 1, 1648. In Yarmouth he was appointed surveyor of highways in 1648, constable in 1653 and made freeman in 1657. Francis and Isabel lived their lives in Yarmouth. They had eight children. Francis wrote his will in March of 1693, naming six children; sons John, Daniel, William & Thomas; daughters Elisabeth Chase and Hannah Pearse, and wife Jesball (Isabel). Sons Nathaniel and Samuel may have died before 1693. Francis died on July 23, 1693 in Yarmouth.
