First wife of William: Nancy "Polly" Bowman, sister of his second wife, Martha.

Martha and her sister Polly were daughters of William Bowman (Revolutionary War Veteran - d. 1808 in Rutherford Co, NC., grave site unidentified.)

Her mother is Mary Cosby (old spelling Causby), hence the use of the name "Cosby" by descendants.
