Andrew Hendry was born in 1854 in Falkirk Parish, Sterlingshire, Scotland and was the son of Peter Drysdale and Ann (Campbell) Hendry. He appears in the 1861 Scotland census for Sterlingshire as a 7 year old. He came to America in 1888.

He was a coal miner, aged 45, living in Roslyn, Kittitas County, Washington in 1900 with 9 children. Ten years later, he and Margaret were living with eight of their eleven children. They indicated that all eleven of their children were still living. In 1930, He and Margaret were still in Roslyn and had a man boarding with them. He died in Cle Elum on January 5, 1936 at the age of 82.

The following biography appears in the Cle Elum Tribune, Cle Elum, Washington, on March 25, 1982. It was written by Peter Passero and is called "Another Story".
The pioneer member of this Scottish family, Andrew Hendry was born in Sterling, Scotland in 1853. He married Margaret Drysdale at New Craig Cottage, Scotland in 1873. He was a foundry man by profession--making stoves in Scotland.
He made three trips from Scotland to America, before sending for his wife and five children --Anna, William, Pete, Andrew and Jeanette--to join him in Fall Brook, Pennsylvania in 1887.
One year later, twin boys--Jack and Alex--were added to the family. They lived in Pennsylvania for a period of eleven years where three more children--Jim, Margaret, and Agnes--came along, increasing the family to ten children.
In 1899, Andrew Hendry, his wife and ten children moved to Roslyn--where the 11th child George Tracy was born. With eleven mouths to feed, it was quite a struggle for this doughty Scotchman.
Both of the elder Hendrys are buried in the family plot in Roslyn--Grandpa Andy died in 1935 at the age of 87; Grandma Margaret in 1940, age 85.
