Martha Adelle Eighme, 98, a longtime resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died late Thursday evening, May 15, 1997, at Colonial Vista Convalescent Center in Wenatchee.
She was born Feb. 20, 1899, to Elmer and Martha (DePas) Baker at Loyal, Wis., and moved with her family to Bethel, Wis., where she received her education through the 10th grade. In 1918, she moved to Madison, Wis., where she attended nurses training and received her R.N. degree in 1920.
In 1923 she married Harry Eugene Eighme in Wenatchee, and in 1929 they moved to Granite Falls, where they spent the next 13 years. They returned to East Wenatchee in 1939 to make their home and operate an orchard. Adelle was employed at the Deaconess Hospital as the nursing supervisor for a period of time. Following her husband's retirement in 1966, they purchased a home in Wenatchee.
Mrs. Eighme was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Wenatchee.
Survivors include three sons, Harold Eighme of Sunnyvale, Calif., Dr. Lloyd Eighme of Lyman, Wash., and Reginold Eighme of Berrien Springs, Mich.; one daughter, Helen Dufur of Covello, Calif.; one sister, Mary Rollins of Wenatchee; two brothers, Philo Baker of Mosinee, Wis., and Clarence Baker of Calhoun, Ga.; five granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, in 1976, four brothers and two sisters.
