BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:

Eleanor Morison was born in either Glasgow or Lanark, Scotland, both of which are near one another and also near Kilmacolm in Renfrewshire, where "Ellen's" husband, Joseph C. Laird, was born.

They married in about 1799 and their first child was born in Aberdour, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, which is on the Northeast side of Scotland, rather than the West where they were born. We do not know why they relocated.

Children born in Scotland:

William R., Oct 23, 1800
Elizabeth, Sep 2, 1802
Susan Anna, 1804-1806
James, Mar 27, 1807
Alexander, 1812
Eleanor "Ellen", Jan 1, 1814

One child born in Halifax, Nova Scotia:
John Ernest, Jun 8, 1817

One child born in Clark Co., OH:
Peter, Mar 22, 1821

On leaving Ohio, the Lairds moved to Carroll County, Illinois near Cherry Grove. They lived on their land but 8 years or so before they both perished in 1845, dying just a couple weeks from one another. First Joseph, who died Jan 5, 1845, and then Ellen, who died Jan 21, 1845.

They are buried in Wolfe Cemetery on what is now farm land in Freedom Township. Their inscriptions read:

"Laird, sacred to the memory of Joseph Laird who died January 5, 1845 in his 74th year"

and

"Laird, sacred to the memory of Eleanor, wife of Joseph Laird, who died January 21, 1845 in her 67th year."

Eleanor and Joseph leave behind them a vigorous and quite numerous band of descendants from Illinois to California.
