There are so many advertisements on this website that my computer barely functions when I try to access my memorial pages these days. I am hoping that the expected changes to the website will cure this problem.
Consequently, I am not actively adding pages at this time, and I do not write or re-write biographies any more. If I find that a biography has some erroneous information, I will delete it, since it is so difficult for me to use this website.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please heed all copyright notices. If I (or someone else) posts copyrighted, originally written material, you may not use that written material without express written consent of the writer. The fact that a biography appears on this website, for instance, does not nullify the copyright of the writer. You may not transfer the text of a biography to any other location or medium.
I have completed extensive, professional genealogical research for the graves under my care. If you have genealogical research that you feel contradicts mine, I will definitely consider it, but I may not be immediately available to do the necessary work right away, and I ask for your understanding in this regard. I am on a tight schedule, with many responsibilities, and I will have to fit in your project as I am able.
Please note that I will not automatically substitute your research for mine, particularly if I find your research to be lacking credible sources or if it is based on family stories. Any professional genealogist worth his or her salt will agree that family stories are highly unreliable. The best that can be said is that there may be a mix of truth and myth involved. (I used to tell my clients, "Just remember, your grandma lied to you.")
With regard to the biographies that I have written for some of my relatives, please remember that these biographies are copyrighted and may not be used in any other publication for any reason without my express written permission. You may, of course, use them in your personal genealogy database, provided that you credit me as follows: "Biography copyright (c) 2000 by Silver Rose Parnell at Findagrave.com, all rights reserved." You do not need my permission to put a link on your web page that directs the reader to a findagrave page, unless Findagrave objects.
Finally, I would ask you to please be nice. I have had a few unfortunate circumstances with overzealous Findagrave members who hounded me, insulted me and generally harassed me because I would not accept their genealogy research in place of mine, and I would not do a lot of genealogy work at their instant demand.
Findagrave is not, essentially, a genealogy site, although a lot of us use it as such. None of the volunteers are required to write biographies, post stories or any of that extra work. We do those things because we love this work and we like to connect with our far-flung cousins and help them. So...be nice to the volunteers and we'll be nice to you.
