Catherine was the 6th child of Frederick Shaffer and Elizabeth Gibbs Shaffer. She was remembered as "a pure-spirited and kindly Christine lady". She died of "dysentery" (SC Death File). Prior to her death in 1899, she had witnessed the passing of both parents and 8 siblings. She was 66 when she died, having never married. "SHAFFER-Died at Marion, SC, on October 9, 1899, in the 66th year of her age. Catherine Wright Shaffer, daughter of the late Frederick Shaffer of this city. Relatives and Friends of the deceased are invited to attend her Funeral, at the residence of her brother, B. G. Shaffer,278 Meeting Street, this morning at 9:30 o'clock." (State newspaper-Columbia, SC; Friday, October 13, 1899; page 3) She is one of the 5 children buried in plot 270 along with their father, Frederick Shaffer.
