Obituary of Mrs. Elizabeth Jamison
Another of Our Earliest Settlers Gone --- Followed to the Grave by a Long Concourse of Old and New Friends
Elizabeth O. Messmore Jamison was born March 25, 1838, near Uniontown, Fayette county, Pa., and died at the home of her son, C. A. Jamison, in Glasco, September 8, 1906.
On October 11, 1860, at Carmichael, Pa., the deceased was married to Josiah L. Jamison. To this union were born seven children -- five sons and two daughters, of which number the sons all survive, the father and two daughters having previously passed beyond the River.
Mrs. Jamison united with the Presbyterian church at Glasco shortly after its organization, and was a good and true member, and a sincere constant Christian in her daily life.
The family came to Cloud county, Kansas, March 9, 1873, and established a home five and one half miles northwest of Glasco. A long residence and acquaintance endeared the deceased to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. In the church she always did her part as best she could, and she often made special sacrifices for the benefit of the church.
During the past four months she suffered from a cancer more pain than we may ever know, for she bore it in full assurance of a better life, and with a patience that was more than what is usual in mortal man.
Burial took place on the 10th, in Glasco cemetery. Services were conducted from the Presbyterian church by Elder B.F. McMillan, of Beloit, a former pastor of the deceased, assisted by Elder W. E. Jones, of the Christian church, and Rev. A.L. Bates, of the Methodist denomination. The large attendance at the funeral bore evidence of the high esteem in which this good woman was held. --- B.F.M.
