Mr. Butter was born in Amesbury, Mass., on Sept. 13, 1859, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Butter. In 1863 the family came to Wisconsin. As a young man, Mr. Butter worked at the Herman Fleming store in Iron Ridge, and was assistant postmaster for three years.
For 13 years he was traveling salesman for his father's wholesale leather business. In 1889 he became a partner in the furniture and undertaking business, which he conducted until this spring.
