Robert H. Butter, 81, died suddenly at his home here on Saturday evening. He had been ill for about a month, and a heart ailment was the cause of his death.

A resident of this city for many years, Mr. Butter and his brother, Alvin conducted the Mayville Furniture company from 1889 until last March, when they disposed of the business.

Mr. Butter was born in Amesbury, Mass., on Sept. 13, 1859, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Butter. In 1863 the family came to Wisconsin. As a young man, Mr. Butter worked at the Herman Fleming store in Iron Ridge, and was assistant postmaster for three years.

For 13 years he was traveling salesman for his father's wholesale leather business. In 1889 he became a partner in the furniture and undertaking business, which he conducted until this spring.

On July 26, 1893, Mr. Butter was married in this city to Miss Freya Zillisch. They were the parents of three children, Mrs. Victoria Farrington, this city; Mrs. Olga Naset of Portage; and Miss Laura Butter, a teacher at Neshkora. Six grandchildren, and two brothers, William and Alvin Butter of this city, also remain.

Funeral services were held here on Tuesday afternoon at the Meilahn funeral home, the Rev. H. A. Michelke officiating. Burial took place in Graceland cemetery.
