Marian was born November 19, 1922, and passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010. She was born to Irwin Cheney Clark and Esther Mabel (Lofton) Clark in their Beaver Creek homestead cabin near Suplee, Oregon. She was the second in a family of six children. At age two 1/2 her family moved to a large house at Suplee where she and her brothers and sisters grew to adulthood.

Schooling for the Suplee children was a one room school complete with a bell tower and an outdoor water pump (and yes, the Clark kids walked more than a mile in the snow to get to school in the winter.)

On July 4th, 1940, she met Milton (Mick) Heman Bowman at a dance in Paulina, Oregon. They were married on January 29, 1941, Prineville, Oregon. Milton was drafted into the army soon afterward and was in the army four 1/2 years. For two of those years Marian lived in Tacoma, Washington, where Mick was stationed. Upon Mick's deployment overseas she moved back to Oregon. After his discharge they bought a farm near Yoncalla, Oregon. By then their son, Kenneth, and daughter, Claudia, were part of the family and a year later son, Gary, was born. Marian, Mick and family enjoyed 22 years together on the farm.

In September, 1967, Mick died in an accident and Marian moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon, and drove a school bus for seven years. On November 27, 1969, she married Paul Emory Thies of Cottage Grove. In 1973 they moved back to the farm at Yoncalla where she and Paul built their small home. They enjoyed 23 retirement years camping, fishing, bird watching and living on the farm until his death in 1996. Marian also loved cooking, sewing quilts and stamp collecting, but most of all her children and grandchildren after Paul's death.

Survivors include son, Kenneth and wife, Bonnie Bowman, of Kent, Washington; daughter, Claudia, and husband, George Hutto of Yoncalla; step-sons, Jon Thies and wife, Joyce, of Cottage Grove; Mike Thies and wile, Janice, of Springfield, Oregon; Roger Thies and wife, Linda, of Eugene, Oregon; brother, Homer Clark and wife, Francis, of Redmond, Oregon; grandchildren, Jim Thies of Coquille, Oregon; Shannon Grove and husband, Ron, of Vacaviile, California; Rob Bowman and Diana of Tacoma, Washington; Kevin Bowman and wife, Debbie, of Bonney Lake, Washington; and Marna Bowman George and husband, Perry, of Tigard, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Whitney, Krystian, Cassandra, Brittany, Eric, Jason, Kyle, Dalton, Jonathon and Tasha. Marian was preceded by husbands, Milton and Paul; son, Gary; brothers, Stanley and Claude; and sisters, Mildred and Audrey.

Marian will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Drain United Methodist Church in Drain.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
