Funeral services for J. P. Garrett, age 81, fatally injured when hit by an automobile near Salem Friday, were held Sunday afternoon from the home of his brother, Thomas J. Garrett near Price, N.C., followed by interment in the family burial plot, a short distance away. Garrett, who was a former citizen of this county, but residing near Roanoke for the past thirty years, was walking along the highway near the latter place Friday when he was hit and knocked down by an automobile, resulting in his death shortly after wards. Surviving is his widow, of Roanoke, and eight children: J. P. Garrett Jr. and W. S. Garrett, both of Roanoke; P. G. Garrett, Richmond; Mrs. G. W. Coltrane, Greensboro; Mrs. H. N. Dyer, Martinsville; Mrs. G. W. King, Charlotte; Ms. T. G. Timby, McKeesport, Va.; Mrs. T. G. Shannon, Tampa, Fla. Also surviving are several brothers and sisters among whom are Senator William A. Garrett of Ridgeway and Thomas Garrett of near Price, N.C.
