Elizabeth's father was a prominent citizen in Calhoun County, Illinois for many years. He was a pioneer merchant and miller in that area. As a result, the town of Batchtown was named in his honor.
At the time of her death, Elizabeth was about 6-years-old. Her parents and some of her siblings moved to Rooks County, Kansas in 1877 and then to Camden County, Missouri in 1881.
