Pauline A. Jones Niles was the sister of our 2nd great grandmother Almina E. Jones Haskins. We believe them to be daughters of John Jones and Sally Youngman. Almina is memorialized on 2 memorial pages #70326666 [with an epitaph] and #115877540 [actual headstone.]

Pauline was married for the only time to Salmon Niles on 31 Dec 1884. At the time, she was 48 and he was 72. A newspaper article from the Rutland Herald on 8 Jan 1885 gives the following: "The death of one of the oldest residents of Morrisville, occurred on Thursday last in a peculiarly sad way. Salmon Niles, aged seventy-nine years, lost a second wife several months since. Being in need of some one to care for him he learned of the whereabouts of a maiden lady to whom he paid court several years ago, and Tuesday, December 30,he drove fifty miles from Morrisville to Chelsea, where he was married New Year's eve to Miss Pauline Jones, his friend of younger days. Monday morning Mr. Niles and bride left Chelsea with a horse and sleigh for the return journey. On account of recent thaws the roads were very bad and the trip proved very tiresome. At Montpelier the couple stopped for dinner. The roads continuing to be bad, Mr. Niles proposed staying over night in a farm-house in Elmore, about five miles from Morrisville. When within a half mile from the farm-house Mr. and Mrs. Niles left their seats in the sleigh and walked while going up a hill. Mr. Niles suddenly fell backward, dead in the road. The bride of a few hours was nearly crazed with grief at the affliction. She managed to get help at a neighbor's, who took the dead man and his bride to Morrisville at 9:30 o'clock p.m. Thursday-a sad finale of a New Year's wedding.
