Samuel Hiatt was the son of Christopher and Jemima HUNT Hiatt. The original Hiatt family came from Butleigh, Somerset, England to Pennsylvania by 1699. Family researcher, Teri Hiatt, states that the original ancestors, John and Mary Smith Hiett were on the ship Canterbury with her parents. John Hiett/Hiatt purchased 300 acres for 350 pounds from John Rowlands in 1700 in Bucks Co, PA. In 1746 John's son, George, moved his family to VA; first to Fairfax MM, then to Hopewell MM. In 1754 the family was at New Garden MM, NC.
